Anyone know what transfer case this is? I would have thought it was a gear driven one since it was out of my k20 but I took the fill plug out and it's a chain drive. What model is it?

These are the only 2 cases that look similar NP 208 and NP 241

The 208 was used 81-88 and the 241 was 89 and later I think to 94 but not positive on that.

Both are aluminum cases with synchronised chain drives.

The only real noticeable difference is where the rear bearing retainer/tail housing meets the main body.

Also the 241 only came with a mechanical speedo in 89 after that they are VSS

You will also notice that the 241 has a 2 piece tail shaft where as the 208 does not.

Both the 208 and 241 come in a circular 6 bolt pattern with either a 32 spline or 27 spline input gear.

The 32 spline can be put behind an SM465, TH400 or a 4L80E with the appropriate stock adapter to match each transmission.

The 27 spline can be put behind either a TH350 or 700R4 BUT!.........

The TH350 used a longer out put shaft then the 700R4 and so they are not interchangeable between the 2 transmissions with out using either an adapter in conjunction with the stock adapter or changing out input gears.

So basically the 27 splines cases are not interchangeable between the 700r4 AND TH350 with out modifications

Both use the exact same shifter assembly on the floor.

Both use ATF automatic transmission fluid which is different from the older gear cases which used gear oil.

The 208 has a 2.62:1 low range ratio and the 241 has a 2.72:1 low range ratio.

The 241 is the better of the 2 as the 208 has weaker shift forks and uses a more complicated internal assembly than the 241.
