The TPM on our Subaru are just above a joke. Kind of like the warning lights that tell you, "you just let your engine be killed."
About all it does is, give you a general warning the tire is low, OR all four of your tires are flat. For example, when you swap summer/winter tires and their different modules, then, several miles down the road, a few days later, after you forgot the swap.
Anyway, the Subaru version of a TPM is enough to save the tire in some situations, not so much in others.
Interestingly, when I swap winter and summer tires, the TPM reader/set up tool I bought gives the actual pressure, so you know what you have, even though the car readout doesn't give any hints.
On the other hand, I've seen some systems I liked because they gave the actual air pressure at any given time. A thing worth its weight in gold, especially for my Grumman with its rear duals.
Brands that show up as, supposedly, having good reputations are:
- Schrader
- Tire Minder (not cheap, but liked by several who pull a lot)
- Tymate

ANYWAY, anyone have an aftermarket TPM they like for dependability and knowing all the details of your tire conditions?
And, did you have to swap your rubber stems for sturdier steel ones?
