Tire machine recommendations

If you aren't going to be doing a lot of tires,a 60.00 harbor freight manual machine with $100.00 worth of mods is hard to beat for the price. IMHO they are worthless garbage as they come. But after adding a good bead breaker to it ($40 from speedway) and a Duckbill kit to it ($60.00) ebay and drilling the base for lugs to hold the wheel down,and welding the mounting base and mounting it to something very Solid. They work pretty good and should do everything you mentioned.

I am considering that option. Good to know it can handle the larger sizes.

Be forewarned they are junk as the come. I did not know this upfront or I would have built one from scratch. But they are an okay base if you you don't have the desire or skills to start from scratch. It will need many mods,but now everything can be purchased or easily made. The speedway beed breaker needs mods as in my previous pics,I made my duckbill,wouldn't again for the price they are available for now. Click on the pardon the interruptions link for the duckbill link.. Pull the pin out of the rim mounting base and drill holes to bolt the wheels down. You can use the 1 hole left by the pin and drill another straight across for 4,6,8 lug wheels drill 2 across like a balance puller for 5 lugs. Click the pardon our interruption text.

The back bead on KMC brand beadlock wheels are an absolute bear... Even with the weight of the hoe i had to rotate each tire to about 3 or 4 different spots and try to get some penetrating oil down in the bead. Then, when it seemed like it was close I was jumping on the bead next to the bucket (I'm 260 Lbs) and they would eventually let loose.

Last time I used my Hi-Lift hooked under the front bumper of my GMT800 Duramax, it took about an hour each to get the beads busted loose. I ended up taking the foot off of my Hi-Lift because it would allow the jack to slip down the sidewall. I would put the edge of the jack upright right next to the bead and jack the truck almost off the ground then use a 2x4 and a sledge hammer to work either side of the jack, then I would move the jack to multiple spots trying to get it to go. Took me a whole week working every night until late to swap a set of tires. I ended up putting the jack upright through 3 of the 5 sidewalls.

I bet that works slick, and probably a little more controllable than the hoe. When I worked for a tire shop our service truck had a hydraulic crane boom, on some of the equipment tires we would leave the wheel bolted to the hub and use the boom to press on the bead while we beat the piss out of it with a duck bill sledge hammer... Fun times

Nice! Some gnarly new treads!
But holy fook, that’s what tire shops are for! I don’t even like changing a dirt bike tire (but I can’t take that in. I’d look like a ****….lol)

Can’t hardly get a regular tire shop to touch beadlock wheels in California, and the ones that do charge shop rate for the work.

To add, most shops that do work on them just run the ring bolts down with a 1/4” impact giving no attention to evenly pinching the tire. That way is totally fine for a race truck but I drive mine at 80 MPH on the way home from the trail and really appreciate them to balance nicely.

There are one or two DOT approved bead locks. Very pricey though.

EDIT: not quite as bad as I remembered. They’re about $900/wheel.

Hutchison Rockmonsters are pretty neat beadlocks, these guys made the beadlocks for the military Humvee
