I dont think anyone of us could see a question in that first post lol try asking again but try harder to let us know what you're wanting to find out.

I'm guessing you have an HEI dizzy with about 21* of centrifugal advance?

You can start bumping the timing up slowly to see if you feel any power gains. Keep a good ear for pinging and check the spark plugs. If you go past 14* initial, you've prob gone too far and should just leave the timing low, as you probably don't know what you're doing, lol.

8* initial is stock for a 350 and usually higher performance is 10-12* but I'm not crazy about 305 heads on a 350. Just wondering why you didn't put a pair of Vortec heads on it?

I much doubt he'll be able to go 10-12 wo pinging on pump gas, unless he has a big cam that is leaking some compression. I am also not a fam of 305 heads on a 350. Only advantage is a higher compression motor, but it does no good if the thing can't breath with those smaller ports. However, it does make a good truck motor with lots of low end torque, but will fall on its face in the upper rpm band.

Exactly my situation id rather have vortecs any day or any other sbc head thats stock..
The 305 heads ran good on my buddys 87 and your right i was looking for low end torque..
Im just doing what i can to get by i dont have alot of money and just barley getting by especially goin to college...
Plus it was just something to try i always wanted to try 305 heads on 350 i wanted more torque...
Im thinking i may need to put a advance recurve kit in it maybe?

If you still have the stock low-compression pistons, you should be able to run 10-12* advanced.

One of my Camaros had a 350 w/305 heads when I bought it. The PO thought (and also told me) it was a rebuilt 305. It felt strong and wasn't a bad motor at all. I ended up pulling it later on, and that's when I found out it was a GM crate 350 shortblock with late 70's 305 heads, although they were ported and polished.

Anyway, I'm not really sure why everyone always knocks this combo. For a poorboy just using what he already has, it's not a bad setup, IMHO.

where my timing is now when i slowly ease into the gas its kinda choppy then smooths out that is when i have it set at 6 degrees before tdc do i need to advance it some more?

Yea we gotta do what we gotta do i was more after torque and knew i would lose top end but i wanted pulling power

I don't think bumping the timing will change any driveability problems, it will likely just add some ponies.
