So after many many hours of fixing and fixing and fixing, I think that the time has come for me to get a new motor. She is old and tired. I picked up this truck last June and it has been nothing but issues. I'll fix one thing, and another two issues come up. Now I'm pouring oil from the dipstick/tube and my oil pressure drops to about 5psi when I'm at a stoplight. So before I get totally stranded and pissed off even more than I am now, I think that I'll order a new motor.

Thinking of these options:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12499529/overview/

http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Performance/809/10067353KC/10002/-1?parentProductId=752506

And I might be able to get a smoking deal on this one since I know the manager really well:

Couple questions though. What is the difference between the two from Summit aside from the HP?

Is it better to get new or re manufactured? Considering the Oreilly motor has a 3 year unlimited warranty on it, it seems like a great option.

Is it safe to assume that the base engines that are sold from Jegs and Summit are the same?

I'm seriously done with trying to fix the motor in the truck. The time and money that I'm spending isn't work it.

If you have any thoughts or advice, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance.

The 10067353 engine is the way to go. New, 3-year warranty, cammed for nice torque, and you can get 260 hp out of it if you put a dual-plane manifold and headers on it. This is the cheaper Summit engine. The Jegs engine you list is the same one with extra parts; Jegs also sells the engine alone, currently for $1460 and free shipping:

Don't get the 12499529 engine. It is the 10067353 with a misfit cam out of a 1960s hi-compression 350. With low-compression heads, it has no stones in the bottom at all. It's a wind-up toy. BTDT.

I agree. As far as the Oreily's engine goes, you really don't know what you are getting. They will use whatever heads they have available, and whatever other parts they can get from the cheapest supplier. Unknown cam, compression ratio, etc.

Couldn't have said it better. And as Bucket pointed out, with the parts store engines, there's no telling.
