So I'm thinking about bolting this on.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

On a stock motor, with a lead foot - can a motor handle this for a while before throwing a rod?

As long as you have a wastegate valve on it and you enjoy stopping at every gas station you see- go for it. Going to have to start with a fat wallet as it will be thin when you are done.

What is there to know about a wastegate?

On a stock engine it'll make more power but mostly it's going to make a ton heat and possibly huff out the breathers all the added crankcase pressure.

Define "a while".

The joy of freedom is your right to do or be whatever you want. Blowing up your own stuff doesn't make you an idiot.

As one who has had experience with blowers, let me ask you a couple questions.

On a fully built SBC with a 6-71, how many miles do you think those engines typically last? To make it simpler, how many digits? 3, 4, or 5?

Without more details on your motor, I'm going to say any "wow" factor will be in how it looks sitting in your garage than how it feels going down the road.

Keep in mind a stock SBC only needs 570 - 650 CFM, any more than that and you risk saturating the cylinders with gas. The one blower I installed was a Weiand 142 with a Comp Cams 270H (low overlap) in a moderately built 355. That blower was more than enough. And yes a lot of heat will be generated and I used WaterWetter to help with that.

These are great and so easy to install for SBCs. They have almost tripled in price since I last bought mine.

Seriously,
If you have zero knowledge about going down this road. ..it will most likely take you longer to bolt it on, than the engine, tranny, d/s, or rear end will last.
Relying on the internet for guidance is silly.
Get books by those who have done it.
Get face to face with other who have done it.
Then work in steps to get you to that stage.

Success in any endevour is important building blocks to advance to the next level.

Unless of course you are just looking for a photo opp.
Or trying to blow something up.
