Great thread HR.. I did this to a Honda civic I had years ago... No big stereo or anything just did it for the hell of it mostly, but I was amazed at the difference it made.. Headlights were brighter, started and ran better too... Plan on doin this to the burn soon..

Sorry to wake up old thread but has anyone considered keeping the fusible link from battery to alt? I just did this to my truck and was curious

I just used a 200 amp breaker found in most audio setups. Something about reducing the wire size while adding a bigger one for more current flow didn't sit right with me.

what are some of the alternator options available. I thought about using one from a 2003 Silverado I had. just unsure of the wiring or brackets. all the other upgrades mentioned I have done along with a second battery. I used 0 gauge wire that I had left over from a electric forklift job at the shop. maybe over kill but its stout for sure. I also ran a pos and neg set up with a quick connect terminal used on electric forklifts to my front bumoer for jumper cables. I own a service repair shop and when doing road calls it comes in handy.

the CS 130 and CS144 are what most use. If you don't mind figuring out the brackets and the wiring I'd be interested in your results

I have done this to all of my cars for some time now.
I go to the local welding supply store for the cable and connectors.
Although some times I just build the connectors from copper piping.
I had many photos of what I had done, but they are all lost on photobucket...

Your new LEDs will not need the extra balls, but all in all still a worthy improvement imo.

Okay somebody linked this to a recent thread, I only read page 1 and page 6. What is stated is good info,but incomplete. The body needs a good ground also.Most things in or on the cab/body are grounded to the cab or body,so the cab/body needs a good path to ground. On a truck the bed needs a ground also. I run battery neg. to alternator bracket, battery neg.to radiator support, and 6 gauge ground from block to frame. 99 percent of us should also have a ground strap from the firewall to the passenger side cylinder head.

Having extra grounds in all the right places is never a bad thing. Unfortunately a lot of vehicles out there have some sort of grounding issue.

Not starting trouble,reiterating,for those that don't know. Grounding the body,no matter where you do it,is not an extra ground it is an extremely necessary ground
