Th350 intermediate clutch clearance

This is my first transmission rebuild, everythings been seeming to go good but when i put the intermediate clutches, steels and wavy it looked like my clutch pack is not thick enough, There is .4 inch between the top of my outer race to the clutches. With the pump on looking through the case theres a 1/4 inch from my piston to top wavy ring.
Im using what came out 3 frictions, 4 steels and wavy. Is this normal?

The intermediate clutch has always had a lot of slop from the factory

The easiest way to tighten the clearance is to take an old low/reverse friction under the intermediate piston. Scrape all the friction material off the clutch and use it as a shim under the intermediate piston. You will have to put a single cut in the metal backing so it will spread enough to fit over the pump.

You can also use 2 intermediate frictions stacked together, you much scrape all the friction material off one side of each vlutch, tge. Stack them together. This will make one thick friction.

The last option is to find a 6 cylinder see intermediate piston ( the really thick piston that only uses 2 clutches) and custom machine it to provide the desired clearance. The thick pistons aren’t very common.

I don’t know if anyone offers thick frictions or steels.
