I'm looking at the possibility of putting a 40 gallon fuel tank from a Suburban in my C20 long bed. Spare tire, exhaust, etc. are not going to be a problem because they are relocated. Has anyone done this? Any mounting problems, fuel fill issues?.

would be nice to use the sport rear bumper and do the fill spout through the license plate.

:word: and even made a write up on it

I read through your build thread and it's very impressive. Were you able to use the Suburban hanger straps? Any tips on mounting the tank? I like the access panel for the sending unit. How did you handle the fill tube? Do you see any possible way of getting back to an existing fuel door? Pics detailing that part of your build would be really great.

Thanks, I just read through it. Seems the biggest dilemma is a good location for the fuel filler. Mine is a real work truck and having the fuel fill in the bed might be a deal breaker. Guess I have to spend some quality time laying under the back of my truck...

Yeah there's a few different options for that. Mine will eventually route to the driver's side taillight and not in the bed anymore. There's definitely more than one way to solve the gas filler issue

Hey Old, I'm new to these forums, seeing your the man everyone turns to, I'll ask my question. I installed an aluminum fuel tank between my rear frame rails, threw out the original outside rail tank.(insurance companies hate them). mine was bought for the 73-87 chevy trucks, so it fit great. I am putting my filler in the bed, will graft the side mounted door in the bed. My truck will never carry anything in the bed. In fact I'm using PPG $500 a gallon paint on the truck as well as the bed. My main question is I want my exhaust to run out the stock location behind the rear wheels, which means the pipes will run close to fuel tank. So I don't have any issues with heat, I am thinking of wrapping my pipes with heat tape that is used on headers. Do you think a couple of layers of wrap will drive down the heat around the fuel tank area?? As soon as I get my new phone I want to start posting pics of all the stuff I have listed about my 75 LWB. I spent the last 3 days on forums about 2 piece drive shaft and th400 pinion angle question I had. I think I finally got it resolved. Thanks for any info.

Yeah that'll be sufficient. You even fab up a heat shield real easy to put between the tank the the pipe
