Does anyone know if you have to depress the pin on the proportioning valve to bleed the rear brakes? Also how do you go about properly bleeding them?

I just re bled them normally, Don't think I even had to do the fronts

I didn't do anything with the proportioning valve at first I did bleed the brakes

Thanks Mark, I'm gonna bleed them and see what happens.

did you convert from a disc/drum setup to a disc/disc setup? If so, you shouldn't being using the then stock prop valve...you'll need a disc/disc prop valve for proper use.:)

Pressure....disc brakes operate at different pressure then drum brakes. That's why there are proportioning valve's for drum/drum, disc/drum and disc/disc. I found a GM style disc/disc prop valve for $35 on eBay. I did a rear disc brake conversion on my 73 GMC C 25 w/a 14 bolt FF. Get a disc/disc valve, it's cheap and will bolt right in place of the original. :)

I added an adjustable prop valve to mine and it seemed unnecessary. It all depends on your setup, with my 1-tons and huge tires the increased clamping force on the back is welcomed, much less nose-dive on braking than before.

i ended up not doing anything and they work fine, just needed to drive it and pump the brakes up. As for the prop valve, i don't think it was ever changed, it looks like the original and the rear discs are working

Your rear brakes won't wear at the same rate as the front brakes without the right proportioning valve, which isn't that big of a deal but if I did a disc swap in the rear I would do it right to get the max life and performance from the uprgade, but that's just me!

I was fortunate to buy the truck with the discs already installed on the rear. Now I will most likely install a disc/disc prop valve that is adjustable. The problem I'm running into now is that I don't have a ebrake.:whymewhyme:
