When I first bought my truck the first things I did to the stock 350 where headers, dual exhaust, swapped the jacked up Qjet that was missing parts for a 750 AVS2, it had an eddy intake already. Ran better for sure.

About 4 months later I put a cam and lifters and a set of those Flotek heads, hardened pushrods, and stainless rockers on it. At this point I had probably about 3k in it, but this is the point where you could feel the difference was night and day.

The best route for 1k budget as Rick said make the exhaust flow easier first, it then supports other mods down the road if you decide you want to get more into it. even if that is just an RV/towing cam later on.

An accessory drive especially the basics PS, WP, alt, fan you will not notice a difference, on a dyno it might make a couple numbers here or there but by the time it's in a vehicle engine bay hooked up to a transmission other things like air flow and air temps will be a bigger factor on power than the accessory drive.

I know it’s been talked about for years, but I figured I could be very specific. I have a 1986 GMC Suburban K1500 with an emissions 350 sbc. I know Vortec is a good way to go, but what can I do to it without going to heads. Cam? Intake? Etc. Vortec stuff will put me over $1k. What can I do to improve horsepower for less? And I do plan on removing all the emission accessories and garbage to clean it up.

Also im running a Edelbrock 1406. I don’t want to go back to a Quadrajet.

Ask any other questions and I’ll answer.

Pic of rig for reference

Not to over simply it but, Headers, long tube and cam. then gears. 99% of other add ons will do very little at the DD rpm. There is a huge difference in wot HP vs driving builds

Here is my build of a 350 TBI keeping it real simple and low cost. If mod allows the link,
