I think its just a sequential thing - except for the first alpha value.

That first letter designates the year (1984 -86)

1984 codes all start with X
85 = U
86 = Y

From 1980 through 1983 the code was only 2 letters.

Sadly this happens often on forums. Not near as often on this forum since someone is usually walking a person thru step by step, but many times, they get their answer and we don't hear back from them until something else breaks. That's usually when they don't get help again until they update their previous started thread, or noone helps them and they get ignored til they run off with their tail between their legs.

Actually he started a new thread and it continued the troubleshooting over here, looks like the end result was a clogged catalytic converter, which reminds me I want to bypass mine and see how it runs.

Yah I don;t want to eliminate mine because of the strict emissions here but like to see how she runs without it and inspect the condition of this one. I am probably going to go all new from the y-pipe back anyway in the spring. Coat the whole system in POR20 and be done with it.
