That plate is affixed to the shaft. Look at c10mixmasters photo above. The welds are not wrong. The rest of the assembly floats around the plate to allow for the advance.
Hit the nail on the head. I tore that thing completely down today and found that second part in c10's picture was scared up like like crazy. Ended up just chucking it all in the trash.

I'll edit my post above to not spread bad information.
