Preventative TBI Pump Replacement

I wanted a few opinions on this. I need to drop my tank to replace the sending unit, and I'm not 100% on replacing the pump. I've heard newer pumps, and they're pretty quiet. When I was a kid, I remember hearing Dodge and GM TBI trucks with loud fuel pumps when they were newer, but I don't hear those anymore. Mine's pretty loud, and it leads me to at least consider that this maybe the factory pump. I could be completely mistaken about pump noise, but I read somewhere once that the way pumps are made now versus thirty years ago is different. I wish I could find that to corroborate this, but I couldn't. The pump works fine, and I know when it starts to run low on gas because it'll groan a lot, but I don't know if I'd be better off holding onto this pump or go with a new one so it doesn't crap out on me when I'm away from the house.

With out a doubt I'd replace it. As soon as you button up the sending unit repair and or look at that pump wrong it's gonna fail the noise you hear is it laughing at you for considering not replacing it.

Replace with a good quility pump while everything is out. And then carry an inline pump with some wires and hoses in a tool box for emergency spare

If you have any plans to increase performance later replace the pump now. I did the TPI pumps thinking they would be enough, then I stumbled on a 454 vortec and which i had just bought the vortec pumps now.

I went ahead and got a new one from RockAuto. I went ahead and got the Spectra package because the Delphi was double. I would like to drastically improve performance down the road so if the new pump lasts a few years, I'll be fine with that. The assembly has good reviews on Amazon, Summit, etc., but I wish RockAuto did reviews...

I knew in my mind it was the better decision, but sometimes I want to hear it from others just to make sure. It was $81 shipped from there versus $200 in the store. I saved a lot. I just bought a Saginaw box from there and sent the old one back, and the shipping almost killed the deal. I learned my lesson on having to resend heavy ass cores in the mail.

Most times when I order stuff from there I get the ones that don't require a core. May be a bit higher priced but in the long run it's cheaper.
