Power steering with Headers

Hello everyone! Recent member and this is my first post! I need help though…I recently bought and installed a 355 from summit in my 1981 k10 Suburban got it tuned and all that good stuff but my concern is the power steering pump is being ripped away from the block and bending my new bracket which I’m sure won’t take long for the belt to fly off at the very least…who has a fix for this style of pump? It’s not a sawginaw pump it’s a new cardone one from Orielys with the stud on the far driver side. I’m planning on a temporary fix using 90* bent zinc or steel from Home Depot to bolt from the back of the pump to the header bolt?

There's supposed to be a secondary bracket behind the pump. But also since it's aftermarket it doesn't cradle the pump like the factory bracket. A/c brackets.

Every header brand I’ve seen listed with Summit has a footnote about a PS and/or A/C bracket that has to be purchased with it. Did you look at one of them to see if it’s what you need?

No I did not actually. They did send an alternator bracket with the headers but I didn’t need it. These are Hooker Headers if that helps

Using the factory bracket. We use to use a socket to make up the difference between it and the header flange and a longer bolt.

its a saginaw p pump, aftermarket block-only or head-only brackets will fix this and look nie

So I have the original brackets still I just didn’t want to have to go through the hassle of taking everything apart again and press off/on the pulley. Sounds like maybe I need to buy the sawginaw pump or put the original bracket back on though

you HAVE a saginaw pump??? Why would you need another? your brackets you got, what did they come from? youre missing half of it( just noticedy ou have the machined ones)

I used the original bracket I put a thread rod on it with a spacer and bolted it up

I used Alan Grove #402L brackets on my 82 C10. They worked great with cast iron manifolds and then headers. Neither came anywhere near the bracket or pump. I've used several Alan Grove brackets over the years. They aren't cheap, but are well-engineered and built in the USA.

Really like the the Grove unit...
However, in my application, it sits too low for the Blazer.
Almost all the kits which use the lower mounting point, would have been too close to the frame.
On a car or a 2WD they work...

So I made this, to keep it up away from the frame on the 4x4... not too much angle, nice and high to fill er up.
The bracket pivots on the Long water pump lug. You can either drill it out for a bolt pass through...
Or tap it deep as you can and use a 3/8" bolt with threads to the hex head.
2-1/2" to 3" bolt works, unless you have the room to run a drill.
The bracket is made with a 3/8" nut welded on the inside, so if you have a pump with the hole through or you drill it oversized, you shim with washers and thread through to the bracket nut. If you tap it, the inside nut is not used.

Most of the stress is pulled back by the plate... in line with the accessory bolts.
The pivot bracket is mounted to all 4 bolts on the front of the pump.
The inner belt could be used too, if you can match the 2 v-belts and get them exact under tension.
Just haven't measured it to try it yet.
Zero flex...
