Removed my 2.5 dual exhaust today. Exhilarating! Mounted the new Hooker manifolds and immediately felt this was one of the best mods I've ever done to a vehicle. These things are bad-a_s_s.
1. No more "special" tools to remove sparkplugs.
2. No more burnt plug boots
3. No more dropping the PS header to remove the starter.
4. Lower under-hood temps
5. No more rusted out header tubes.
6. No more leaking gaskets
Soo much room around the engine block and clutch linkage.
On this SBC I'm 99.9% confident there is no loss in performance for a daily driver. Check out the pic of the collector outlets.
The manifolds actually get larger from front to rear and curve slightly to create the perfect exit angle.

Tommorow, I'll continue fab work on the 2.5" Y-pipe. So far I'm super happy with the manifolds.

Going with Magnaflow this time. That includes 3" cat, flex joint, muffler (very impressed with the quality) and 3" tubing out the DS rear.

Are you going to try to merge the y pipe before the O2 sensor? I’ve often wondered if that’d make it more accurate…

Is this a stock SBC, and which manifolds did you use? Hooker shows two parts number 8525 and 8527, and it seems like the 8525 has the standard rectangular port for an SBC head. However, the text says it’s for engine swaps, so that confuses me.

Did you get a pre fabricated y-pipe? If so, where from?

Y-pipe is done except for the Oxygen Sensor bung. It's tight under a K series using 2.5" tubing but where there a will there's a way.

Are you still going to be able to put the o2 bung after the y, or did it end up being too far downstream?

I can’t remember the instructions verbatim, but I thought it was supposed to be within 12” of header collector.

It's in the 4 inch section I added after the merge collector. I didn't have a weld in bung on hand so I'm waiting on that.

Many stock O2 sensors are unheated, so they need exhaust heat to operate correctly. These must be close to the exhaust manifold. If you are using an aftermarket (5 wire?) sensor, like the ones used with many wide-band AFR gauges, they are heated sensors that would work even if at the end of the tailpipe.

Let us know how if you see any notable differences on your afr measurements measuring all 8 vs 4 cylinders (hopefully all good things )

Guys in Arizona don’t know how lucky they are, look at how clean the underside of that truck is!!! I would bet there is not a single bolt that couldn’t be remove without twisting off or rounding the head. Northeast guys and gal’s would find it sooo easy working on a desert square. Not that that is an issue probably more wishing my square was so clean.

Sniper and ProFlo4(SquareRoot’s case) both used heated o2 sensors, but both give very specific locations for the sensor. I don't remember exactly, but I believe it’s within 12” of the collector and at least 18” of exhaust after the sensor.
