Good evening,
I currently reside in Utah and own a 1986 GMC K1500. I have been experiencing difficulty getting the vehicle to pass emissions testing. I have installed new headers with no leaks, new catalytic converters on both sides, and new mufflers; however, the truck still does not meet emissions requirements.

I have been advised that installing a smog/air pump may be necessary to pass the inspection. I would appreciate any guidance or recommendations regarding this matter.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Any emissions equipment your truck came with new has to be installed and operating if they are giving a visual inspection,if it's just a sniffer post your numbers so we can see what has to happen to get your numbers right.

in NC once your vehicle hits 35 years old there is no more inspection.

From a quick googling it appears that there might be some different rules in Utah depending on your county.

But it would be helpful to provide what the test results / emissions levels were. Different readings at different times can indicate different solutions.
