My plastic chrome grill got sprayed red. I took it off though and hit it with blue scotchz-brite pads.
No primer. Krylon.
3-4 coats though.
Turned out great, hella highway miles down crappy,/ dirt roads.
It holds up fine for what it is AND the extreme minimal effort / cash put forth.
Would do it again. A++
