Im going to put my chips on.... just dont.

If you could scuff it up enough with sandpaper you might get paint to stick.

Plasti - dip it! You could always peel it off if you dont like it. May not be suited for a bumper though....lol. I know some guys that have dipped their chrome mirrors in this and had good results.

Yeah, this is for the chrome on the door handles on the caprice and I'm hoping to keep the handles installed on the door during this process :)

yea don't paint chrome. I always have to go back and remove somebodys paint over chrome. Remove said chrome part, buy a painted one or trade and put it on lol.

technically you need to grind the chrome off, smooth, prime, paint.

You can scuff it up and use adhesive promoter though.

Everything I've read thus far about plasti dip is that you don't have to scuff up anything. You just have to clean the surface real well. I've been watching vids of folks putting this on chrome bumpers without issue.

Anyone have experience with plasti dip? Can you give me anymore insight, heavyleft?

I wish I had personal testimony. It was a post I read from a fellow K5er on another forum. He put it on his mirrors, still in place, and at the point of his posting, he had done it a year prior and he really liked it.

I have been thinking of doing the plasti dip to my mirrors as well....seems to be the only chrome left on my rig minus the trim around the grill and it doesnt match the black Ive already done to it.

There is no proper way. Sometimes it will hold up, often it won't.

I painted the chrome grille on my '91 S-10, just to see if it would work (and I was SICK of the chrome). I sanded it with 180 grit, then scuffed it REALLY well with a red scuff pad. Then I primed it with spray can primer. Before it was fully dry, I painted it black... also from a spray can. After several months and several thousand miles on the road, it had it's share of rock chips. However, the rock chips only took off the black paint, the primer is still sticking to the chrome. I think it may have been my experimental prep work that caused the black paint to chip... or it's just because it was paint from a spray can.

Don't waste the time or funds, as plasti dip won't last. If you want chrome, just replace with a new unit. If you must paint....sandblast, soda blast, prime and paint.
