Somebody here posted pics of thier headers that were stainless steel off ebay I think, and they still looked damn good for being used for a year. He said he got them off ebay I thought. I can't remember who it was.

One thing I'd like to mention is the need for a heat shield or heat insulation wrap for the starter, or a mini starter, and maybe a longer battery hot wire to route it away from the headers. I just have the insulating wrap on mine, held on with bailing wire lol.

I had an 83 that I had a mild build at best, I tried running open headers for awhile but honestly the truck had NO power (no back pressure) BIG pipes and Primaryies are not always a Good thing.

Seems like 2.5" pipe is pretty standard, I my self dont like tips so on any of my trucks I run the 2.5" pipe past the axle then turn it towards the corners of the bumper then down you can see about 1" of the pipe. I think it has a better sound to it it seems like it bounces the sound off the ground instead of just shooting it straight back.
If your interested I can try to take a picture of how mine exit. Also I am not big on the loud exaust so i just run turbo mufflers, There quiet when I want to sneek but if I want to hear it I can with a nice tone.

I know what setup you mean, I'd also like that. I may even do that, I like the way that looks better than the chrome tips out the back look also.

Well, fixed the exhaust leak. Partially. Looked under the hood at the manifolds, 1 bolt was missing out of each side and 3 bolts on each side were loose, and needed snugging. 1 of them was even backed out a half inch.

I snugged up all that was there and still need 1 bolt for each side. The exhaust leak is gone though.

Still doing the headers and duals though.

Any recommendations on something better than just the plain jane flowmaster? For around the same price ($70-75 each)...

And how about these magnaflows. I have a huge stainless magnaflow in my 01 right now (dual 3" inlets and outlets) and its pretty quiet until you get on it, and the sound is beautiful.

On the black 86 I went with the flowmaster American Thunder 40 series, they were nice but, you know, just flowmasters. I think the magnaflows are worthy of a chance, plus they are stainless!

I've actually been tossing around installing electric exhaust cut outs to where when I want to run open headers (just for the grins annoy people at stop lights) I can just flip a switch and be running open :D I haven't completely decided on it yet but I think it'd be pretty cool to have :D
