Hey All
What oil are you using? I have a 89 With over 200,000 mile and running 10W-30 Conventional. Some blue smoke at cold start ups, Valve Seals and small drips on the bell housing rear main seal?
Would you stare using High Mileage synthetic Blend or straight Synthetic Oil ?
I done some research and Synthetic causes leaks from removing sludge around gaskets and that it restores gaskets WTF

Not much you can do about any of that, save for replacing gaskets or maybe some Bar’s rear main seal repair (I’ve had good luck on short term with it). I run 5w-30 still with 280k on my 90 burb. Been using the valvoline restore and protect for about a year now.

Oil is not going to fix mechanical issues...I would run what was in before and fix when smoke and drip starts getting worse.

I just stick to the specified oil for the engine, nothing fancy like a "high-mileage" oil or anything like that.
Seeing as it gets replaced every 12 months because I don't make 7500 miles in it between changes, I throw in a decent mineral 10W40 oil with high zinc content for the lifters and a good quality filter and call it quits.
Changing to a different oil isn't going to fix your blue smoke or oil leaks, that requires fixing the root cause rather than trying to hide the symptoms.

Mobil still makes at least one weight of high ZDDP synthetic oil, and they used to stock it in 5 quart jugs at Walmart. Cheapest solution I found for a flat tappet cam engine.

I have now installed a roller cam, so I have not checked lately for the high ZDDP oil.

Do some investigating, whatever oil make sure it has low levels of calcium detergent. The calcium detergent washes the DZZP off of the cam. API SP oils have lower levels of calcium detergent. All modern oils still have 60s level DZZP

Interesting article. I run the Valvoline Restore & Protect 5W30 in all my vehicles now - if they would offer 10W30 in the US ( Mexico gets it -? ) I would run that in Goldie. Still hoping for the reduced oil burn in Goldie. We shall see ...

I feel like it has helped some with my consumption. Currently I am down 1/2 a qt every 1k miles. But I changed plugs this spring and compare photos of the plugs to ones I took 2 yrs prior and there was A LOT less oil and sludgy stuff on the plugs past their shoulder on all cylinders except for no2 that showed no change. Most went from wet and sludgy to dry. That was after about a year of RnP use. Will see what the plugs look like the spring after next when they are due for a change again.

Calcium detergent is still kind of high. I'd run it if that's what I had but I'd switch to Mobile classic. The VR1 looks good also. The calcium detergent washes the DZZP off.
