One orange wire should go from headlight plug to the fuse box, another would branch off to the cigarette lighter and another to Convenience Center if so equipped, whatever that would be. You need to trace that second orange wire and see exactly where it goes. Or at least unplug the cigarette lighter power feed from behind the socket and see if it still heats up.

Ok. Will do. I know that the cigarette lighter does work. So in other words, there shouldn't be two orange wires going into the circuit behind the light switch?

According to that diagram I posted there could be 2 wires. Trace the second mystery wire. or, cut it off and see if the main wire still heats up. We want to narrow down the source of the short.

This is the closet thread to my issue. I have no rear running lights. Everything else works. T/L CTSY fuse looks good (im gonna try a new one just to be safe). Where all could the issues be? I think I read somewhere about grounds coming off? is that pertinent to this?

Ok seems like I have power at the rear plug. Gonna check bulbs....any suggestions on locations for issues in the back end of the wiring?

Do you have a tow harness? Take a continuity tester and check the sockets for good ground to frame.

I do have a tow harness. I disconnected the harness and using a volt meter on the plug coming from the front of the truck I'm only getting 9v on the brown wire

Low voltage in a single circuit:

Jerry after a few phone calls he has power to the rear. Had him unplug the harness at the firewall and run a jumper from the battery to the brown wire pin. He's got a home made test light. Says there is power to the brown wire in the back of the truck. He doe not have a multimeter. This is screaming a ground issue in the rear to me. He has an aftermarket "T" plugin tow harness and has added a 3 light ID running bar light under the tailgate that is grounded to the bed. Do you know where the bed to frame ground strap and rear harness to frame ground wire connections are for my neighbor here to locate and inspect? It's a bit cold outside and he is struggling lol. Hang in there bud.

You must be registered for see images attach
look what I found Haha. Its the harness for the long run to the rest of the truck. I couldn't find any issues with the rear harness that goes to each lamp assembly. So I took they wrap off the main harness and found the wires falling apart. Guess I need to find a new harness to wire in
