new motor

Looking at a motor that came out of a old boxvan. What size motor would it be? Was told it had an rv cam and that it was a 377 stroker. But there dodge boys so i figured a 383?

A 377 is a destroked 400. An old boxvan could have had about anything in it.

Gotcha. Id be happy with a 400. Theyre a good running motor right?

Get the casting number from the back of the block, right above the bellhousing. Running that number will give you a much better idea of what you are looking at. If the valve covers are off, get the cylinder head casting numbers too.

Just get the casting number and then google "Chevy engine casting numbers" and see what sites pop up so you can look it up. I always used Mortec but last I checked, it was still closed down. And like I said before, try to get a cylinder head casting number too... it will be under the valve cover and 7 or 8 digits.

Also pay close attention to the digits. 3, 6, 8 and 9 will often look very similar.

Well, dads giving me a big block out of a 94 dually. Around 150k miles. Gonna built it up i guess

Yes, but you will have to use the 454 harness and computer, and you will want to watch for exhaust manifold clearance. SB frames are narrower than GmT 400.

I'd say that's a moot issue. Granted the frame widths are different. But using SB motor mounts on the 454 it should bolt right in and also use a Th350/400 trans mount on the 4L80-E and should use the SB crossmember too.

This is a 2WD we're talking about right? And as Jim did point out, you'd have to run the ECM, ECM Harness, and after a second read of Jim's quote, I see he was referring to E manifolds not mounts, yes you'd likely or I would anyway use the SB exhaust manifolds. I like bolt in OEM stuff, but using that 93 Set up with a 4L80-E, would be no different than in a 91 Crew Cab or Burb with that Motor/Trans Combo. I'd rock that if you can get it cheap enough and it runs good. Much better idea than the Stroke or Destroke whatever those Dodge boys that don't know wth they have.
