Yeah I stay far far away from spring compressors anytime I can. Me and buddies have nearly lost digits on multiple occasions. Glad you got it!
When I changed the struts on my Forester, I bought two sets of spring compressors. Having four compressors was too many for one spring, having two compressors was scary as heck, and three was just right. Three kept the load nice and balanced, but it still made me very uncomfortable until everything was buttoned up.

Best spring compressor I ever bought. Expensive but worth it.

I am a big sissy I guess. I saw a couple spring compressor videos where the springs shot out like a helicopter or like a bullet. I can't imagine losing a finger or hand of even worse to a mistake anyone could make easily.

Definitely can happen with the ones that hook over the coils. This one goes up through the center of the coil and the two steel plates collapse the spring but also trap it in place so bad things can't happen.

Same happened with my c10. Solve problem by installing an anchor in the concrete under the frame, attached frame to anchor, and jacked up the lower control arm. That worked great. Now to grind off anchor bolts and patch driveway. Hahah

Just throw a chain on the ground. Set your floor jack on top of it. Wrap the chain over the frame. The floor jack arm can go up but the chain under the floor jack keeps the frame in place.

I've said it before and I know for sure that I'll say it again... you sir, are a genius.

I want to weld heavy D-rings onto my floor jack now. Or just weld on chain hooks. Or both, lol.

That's a good idea.
I've always just looped the chain under the jack's axle.
