Picked this up from my nextdoor neighbor. Original owner - 1976 C20 Cheyenne. All stock and about 130,000 miles (speedometer disconnected due to noise).

The interior needs a dash pad, a seat cover and a few plastic pieces. Should I keep the interior red or change over to black?

Thanks!

Looks very nice and unmolested. I'd keep it as stock as possible but, that's just me. You're bound to have a lot of fun in/with that truck.

Welcome to GMSB. I'm with snoots, I'd keep it stock and OEM as possible. I don't think black was a color option anyway so you'd have to do all custom interior to go black where as you might be able to find some OEM red parts around that are in Fair to Good shape that are good enough to use to put it back together.

Unless you're going for showroom new restoration, then go with whatever you so please. Pink with Purple Polka Dots would be festive.

Looking over those pics again, you did real good on that truck. That truck is in good enough shape as is, I think I'd just get some extremely fine wet sandpaper. Wet sand that bitch and clear coat all that patina. That's a perfect Patina truck right there in my opinion. Keep the white stock OEM dog dish hub cap wheels, clear coat the Patina to put a little shine on it and prevent the rust from getting worse and I'd go with that. If you can find a red OEM dash pad and get the seat reupholstered in close to factory as possible aftermarket fabric or for a seat, even a bit aftermarket isn't going to hurt. But yeah, I think it's a great PRESERVATION PROJECT truck, not a RESTORATION PROJECT. Once they get to far, they need restored, but that one IMO is just a Patina truck. Hopefully others will give their opinion too. :waytogo:

Oh, and you can get stuff to fix those saggy door pouches too, that's also a common issue on the older 70's door panels.

:welcome: I've never really been a fan of red/maroon, but in this case I think I'd stick with the original color.

Man, that truck is sweet! I'd never switch it over to black because look at how nice most of the interior parts look! I don't usually throw my support behind the patina look, but I'd make the exception in this case. I'd also make the case for a fresh paint job done by someone reputable. Besides replacing the worn stuff, the only modifications I'd make is going to OEM style elephant mirrors and bracing the hood so it won't buckle if it hasn't been done already. That thing is a true survivor. Welcome, by the way!

Well - looks like it’s staying red/maroon!

I've never really been a fan of red/maroon, but in this case I think I'd stick with the original color.
I was never a fan of red either but I was leaning in that direction. It’s too original too change over.

...Pink with Purple Polka Dots would be festive.
Lol - definitely not a restoration project. It’ll be used to haul the dirt bikes to the trails, Home Depot runs, Scouting activities etc.

...Wet sand that bitch and clear coat all that patina.

That was going to be my next question - how to preserve the patina and stop the existing surface rust. I’ll have to do some research.

Wet sand it and clear coat it and done. At least to the best of my knowledge that's all that's needed.
