I lost spark on muh Burb. I left work, I was hooking up the boat, the truck shut off like a light switch. I tried to crank it a few times, it barely fired the first few hits, then had nothing.

It is not a fuel issue, I sprayed starting fluid in the TBI and got no response. It is spark. So I am thinking replace the coil & ignition module tomorrow morning. They are original.

I used a spark tester on the number one wire and it didn't have any spark.

Please post your suggestions. I think that is the first 2 things to replace, and go from there if that don't work.

Thanks.

Also, I got to get a special silicone stuff to put under the ignition module when I replace it right?

I say ignition module. Ir rare for those coils to go bad, so i"d try the module first. You can use that good if you want. It lasted how many years without it???

See if your getting power to the red wire coming from the harness to the coil before you do anything else.

Here is a post with ingnition testing info. get your Digital Meter out!

http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showpost.php?p=82296&postcount=11422
Somebody need to do a damn write up on this and pin the topic so the info is easier to find, like how to diagnose

Anyway, my mechanic hooked me up with a free coil and ICM and I put them on and it is fine now. So it was one of the 2, and yes most likely the ICM. The probes on my meter are too big for the slots to test the coil, and I didn't have time to run around and find paper clips or something, so I figured if it was a free new coil, slap it on anyway.

I did use the meter to test the pickup coil. The old ICM had corrosion on the prongs the plug for the P/U coil goes over, that made me say :wtf:.

I got plenty of pics and will do a write up later to share here. Really though, we need a sticky of info like that stuff Jim posted so it's easier to find.....

I f I were you I would pick up an extra ignition module and leave it in the glove box. Just for the peace of mind that if the used one you replaced the bad one with doesn't have much life left in it at least you have a new backup waiting. Might save a lot of hassle one dark night at the boat ramp.

The replacement parts were not used, they were brand new, they were made by Standard, I never had problems with their parts.

I do agree on keeping a spare anyway. Luckily this happened half way across that field I go across behind my house. My brother was able to tow me back with a tow strap, and I had the boat hooked up to it too, heading to the ramp.... :shitsweak:
