Muffler position

I have a 83 C10 with auto. trans with headers, trying to figure the best place to locate muffler on dual exhaust, no crossmember to worry about, the mufflers I took off was positioned 5 feet from end of the headers but it waa designed to go over axle and Im exiting in from of tires, also from end of headers to back of cab is 4 feet

on my '77 they are positions towards the rear of the cab and exit out the back. On my '87, they are positioned roughly where the back doors are and exit directly after the rear tires on each side.

I would aim for somewhere very near the hangers.
