So I've found places that make lowering leaf springs, but surprisingly they don't make them for our trucks. I find this really hard to believe given their popularity and the fact that GM made the same chassis from 73-87.

I will try calling some phone numbers after the holiday, but when I use the application finders on the various websites they say they don't make them.

Anyone have a lead for me?

Thanks,
Stepperado

I say the reason they don't is because the shackle and hanger kit gets you like 4 inches, but if you do the axle flip you get 5-6 why would you want any lower static?

Also if you do an axle flip then you can use blocks to make it go lower just like s10's

OK, after more searching, I did find a place called Western Chassis that makes lowering leaf springs. Anybody heard good or bad about them?

lowered leaf springs

I went to Eaton Detroit, they can make some with up to a 3 inch drop. Very pricey. Mine ran around 800.00 with shipping. Also, long box c10's had 56" rear leafs.

Don't know about that my 82 long bed had 52" rear springs.

Some 2wd 1/2 ton long beds and Burbs have 56" rear springs, but most seem to have 52's.

I ended up keeping all but the overload springs in the rear, axle flip new hangers and c notch. Rear end is dropped 7 inches. My truck tucks a 20" x 10" wide rear tire with extra room. Why would you need new springs?

Cutting - notching the bed support to make room for a drop shackle isnt that big of a deal. Installing a mini notch takes more time and cutting.

Hell...I had to completely remove my front fenderwells in order to clear my front tires...new fenderwells are being fabbed soon. Chop, chop and drop!

I could modify the support in a heartbeat and make it look factory. I just don't want to do any cutting on this particular truck.

about the 52" and 56" leaf springs on 1/2 ton trucks, could be whether or not it is a one piece drive shaft or a 2 piece shaft? I'm not sure but just asking. On my 75 long bed I went with Eaton 2" drop leafs along with Mcgauphys axle flip and C-notch
This will give me 8" drop in rear, and on the front I have a Scott's hot rods dropped cross member which gives me a 5" drop. Will be running 20" wheels and tires. 255/40/20 front and 285/40/20 in the rear. my build is a frame off restoration/modification. Have wilwood disc's up front and will be installing wilwood disc's in the rear. I will post pictures as soon as I get either a new camera or phone.
