I have a 1986 Chevy K 10 4 x 4 I have a hood latch and want something to buy so that I can lock the hood from being opened with a key so that I can disable something in the engine bay and then lock the hood leaning it less liable to be stolen

A hidden electrical kill switch sounds much easier and exists.

2, possibly 3 options I can think of.

Keyed hoodlock pins. 60/70's style.
or
Short piece of chain attached to hood and core support secured with padlock. You'll still have to open the hood a few inches to access the lock and it will probably rattle a bit.

You might also be able to drill the hood hinges and install padlocks that prevent full opening.

Additionally, I typically add the "knob" style battery clamps. Remove the knob and unless they brought some tools to reconnect battery, they can't start it

Kill the fuel pump. It's not as obvious or as easy to defeat.kill the starter I can get past that in seconds kill power to the distributor, again I can get past that in seconds. It starts and dies is a head scratcher.yes you can kill fuel on carbuetated models too. Add a cheap instant on alarm with no warning lights or stickers, leave the doors unlocked and they'll bail before they break your window and smash your column just to find out it won't start. O.P. a chain and a padlock as mentioned, would stop me from getting around many anti theft ideas.

Back as late as the 90's, you could order universal hood lock kits from JC Whitney. They did exactly what you want, with a lock cylinder that would get mounted near the hood release.

These days, I have no idea if any of those kits are still manufactured.

what is needs to kill the fuel pump to a carb . I thought about cutting the powered wire to the disturber and then covering it with some type of wire cover so the truck would turn over but wouldn’t get spark.

Another thing I thought about was making some type of system where when I flipped a switch and the hood was opened it would sound the horn or an alarm but I don’t. Know what sensor to use . If possible does anyone have a photo of the hood lock idea with a chain and lock my only concern would be theifs with bolt cutters!

Start with a cheap instant on alarm no stickers no warning lights, leave the truck unlocked, crooks think you're an easy mark, when they open the door SURPRISE!!!! This way your window doesn't get broken or your column smashed. Do your hidden kill switch. Bolt an eyebolt to the radiator support and a piece of chain to the bottom of the hood. Padlock the chain to the eyebolt.. No one is going to stand there with bolt cutters cutting your chain while a siren is blaring. If they really want your truck they'll just pick it up with a wheel lift. Again the alarm goes off.

On the other hand, I might be inclined to suffer the stickers. Said another way, if someone points a gun at me, I'm not going to argue about if it's loaded or not.

The horn alarm when the hood is opened would be easy. There are switches that activate when pulled. They come in different configurations. Some would stay on. Others are spring-loaded (momentary) and would shut off when the hood was closed. They would be activated by a fairly weak spring (a couple pounds pull).

The momentary switch could be activated by another switch in the cab, so you didn't have to listen to air horns blast each time you opened the hood.
