Anybody ever replace the whole light unit? Mine, the screws holding the lens on are rusted and stripped. I'd like to go with an LED unit for replacement if possible. Anybody shop around for these before?

They're pretty standard replacement item, look for stainless steel instead of chrome if you can, most parts places should carry them. Never seen LED ones though.

It's the same light used in a ton of Chevys. Burbs, Blazers, Vans and S-10 Blazers all have the same one. I think my '69 and '70 Impalas use it too.

I've sold all my good extras to customers, I only have one left and the lens is cracked.

Noway in hell I'd pay $28 for a license plate light. Boneyard one for $5.

If the housing is good, you could just get a new lens and screws, then buy the LED bulb replacement

That's too big, they are the size for the brake lights, good prices though.

I am going to bust out the dremel and try to salvage most of the one I got and see if I can get the old screws out. Then I may try to find a way to mount a base in for those 194 bulbs, you can find them in LED lickety split. :005:

You have to click on the tab that says "6x-xx". The brake lights are 1157s or 1156s. According to here, a standard #67 bulb by Phillips has a .75" diameter and 1.44" length also: http://www.bulbs.com/espec.aspx?ID=13566. Based on that, it should fit just fine.
