Ehh that don't count. That's just a visual thing. So guess I better es splain !!!

Mark IV did actually run through 95 and Mark VI is 96 or Vortec and above. Some guys like to say 91-95 or 88-95, and/or the TBI 454's were the Mark V (5) motors. This is not true and some will aruge and argue. Notice GM skipped over the Mark V badge on the 454. Reason being, Mark V was a badge, copyright or whatever you'd like to call if for the Ford/Lincoln Continental Mark V. So GM wouldn't use the Mark V badge and skipped the V. So this is what I was taught, and pretty much have gone by that, and all the parts and specs seem to match up.

Did they do a head design change with the Vortec 454, like with the SB's?

Yes, but I am about certain you can bolt them on a Mark IV and use a Mark IV intake too. I don't think you can use pop up pistons with Mark VI heads though. Something to do with combustion chamber protrusion from the head that gets it down to about 100cc. Another one of those things, it can be done, but do that reseach to get all the details.

Our man Stumpuller6.5 used to be Stumpuller454 when he had a Vortec 454 with a whipple supercharger. That thing got down with the program when he wanted it to.

Ok, so I put new plugs, wires, fuel filter and changed all fluids this weekend. Took the smog smack off the truck, and replaced the vacum lines. While it runs ALOT better, it feels like the carb isn't opening up the 4 barrell portion... like it is only running on 2 - 2 1/2 barrells...... It has the original Rochester carburetor on it..... Is it time for a new carb???? If I put a new carb on it I am going to upgrade to a new fuel pump too.... Might as well eh?
