hey guys i need some help, i have an 86 silverado, 12" suspension lift, 40" tall iroks, crossover steering with hyrdoassist, its a 1/2 ton, i put 3/4 ton axles under and did a disc brake conversion on the rear, my issue now is d i stick with the stock master and booster or convert to hydroboost? any one ever done this or knows about the pros and cons? any input is greatly appreciated.

The only reason I would consider going to hydro-boost is if the cam you're using won't give you enough vacuum for your braking system, there's really no advantage, especially since you're already running hydro-assist steering. Guys run them on street trucks due to no vacuum from the cam, or the smaller footprint, to help clean up the firewall. I'd stick with the vacuum assist if it were mine.

I switched to hydroboost and it was well worth the effort. It's a matter of whether you want the 900 psi clamping force at the calipers you get with vacuum assist or 2400 psi with hydroboost. I figured it was going to cost far more to fix my truck after I rear-ended someone than what the hb conversion cost.

With all due respect to Retro's grandfather (who invented the modern vacuum brake system) hydroboost is the way to go when running oversize tires.

I don't know much about hydro boost, but I replaced it from a vacuum booster, and I have never had a single problem with it, and make the engine bay look a little cleaner as someone stated earlier

I like the hydro in my C30, although the brakes feel... Different. Its hard to explain, and honestly could just be worn parts. I plan to put hydro in my '80 Camaro, the extra pressure is fully worth it!

Hydro Boost is the way to go. I installed a complete system in my 70 Chevelle a few years back, got most of the parts new from the GM dealer using a Hummer H2 as a base to buy parts from. We made our own lines and tucked them into the fender so all would be hidden. Here are some pics, the 572 had a huge cam in it but this car still had brakes for days! Wish I still had that car, sold it at Mecum a few years back.

That's beautiful, I used to have an orange 70 SS396, mine had the white top, stripes, and interior though. Man I miss that car! Awesome looking car! You did a fantastic job on it!

About the hydroboost...I totally passed over the 40" tires, so yeah it would definitely benefit you. The stopping power would be greatly improved with that big of tire on it.
