Use this as a general guideline for GM steering columns . . .

Do you have the type with the collar that's held down with 3 screws?

Ok, the little coil spring goes into the cancel cam first, then the little metal peg and then the little retaining collar. The collar rotates and locks into place. When installed properly, the metal peg should be kinda spring loaded.

Then the flat spring disc gets laid into place. Without having it in front of me, I can't remember which way faces up. I think the concave side faces you though. Then the steel cup goes on, followed by the insulating ring, then finally the three screws that hold it all together.

The horn cap pops into the steel cup.

Thanks. These are the parts I have. The little white thing has an extension completely around it. There is no tab sticking out to lock into cancel cam. I have no clue what the big white thing is.

I have no idea what the big white thing is either.

I'm gonna say that the little white piece is wrong for the application. Your cancel cam has the little hook notch in it, doesn't it?

Cancel cam is OK. Looking at the picture you see the little white thing has the circular ridge. It sits nice on top of the cancel cam.

I can cut the circle off and leave a tab. Don't know if it will strong enough.

On the happy side. I drove the trick out of the "garage" and around the block. Parked it and went inside. Rained. Since I don't have a window, the seat is now the largest sponge in AZ.

Lots of little things to finish besides the horn. I can always yell out the window because there is no driver's window.

Based on what I could find online, the 67-72 horn kits include that extra white ring, but its not part of the 73+ horn kits. I didn't think GM made any big changes over the years, but maybe that ring was needed only in the earlier columns.

Great info. Kit was probably designer for multiple years. OR I got the wrong kit.

I got the 1972 kit. Explains why it don't fit and has big white ring.

1973 up is different.

I also need a horn button. Mine is missing two tabs.

All I need in the picture above is the little white round thing that has a little knob and not a circle extension .

It's not the one pictured, but one with a lille knob to hook into cancelling cam and retain spring.

Thanks again.

Do you also have a horn button with all the retaining arms???
