My neighbor has a 2012 F150 2wd. He needs to replace the engine mounts. He got a quote for 2k! He then asked me if I would. I am certain it's not easy like these old trucks. I am reluctant to take it on, because I don't want to mess it up. If you have done this job before on a 2012 F150, let me know what's involved. Thanks

I have no idea. He wants me to give him my price and I told him I need to be able to look at it.

Most late models are tight. May require removal of other items like PS pump. It's just an unpeel the onion sort of operation. Really not complicated.

Problem I usually ran into with this sort of job is working around engine hoist legs and figuring out where to lift the engine. Many intakes are plastic and can't be used.

Another thing to look at is clearance between floor and tranny. Actually, haven't seen one of those with bad mounts, are they really bad?

Probably a 5.4. I changed engines in an 05 once. Probably remove exhaust and manifolds and then you might have ample room. I would look at it and see what room they gave and make a plan. Might only need to remove front tires and front splash panels. To get to them.

It won't be until he says come over, until I can look. I don't have a shop, no garage, so no hoist or lift.

A while back he asked me to replace a front wheel bearing and I never heard back, so who knows, he may just take it in somewhere.

I don't mind helping, but I like knowing what it entails beforehand

Who diagnosed it as needing engine mounts and what was the original complaint?

He said it clunks/makes noise like the engine mount is shot upon acceleration, so he's been babying it.

I'd say it would be wise to verify what's wrong before replacing the engine mounts. But I'm betting that's what you were already thinking anyway.

For sure. I am already leery of it, but definitely don't want to go through all the trouble if it's not needed.
