Shortly after I got the truck, I swapped out all the shocks with Monroe Gas Magnums.
Granted it was much better, but the front end still does way too many rebounds after RR tracks or the likes.
The rear end is fine.
This is a Big 10 with heavy suspension. All original. No lower or lift kit. I want to keep stock stance.

I would like to get shocks I can adjust the compress and rebound.
Is there anybody that has had a similiar situation?
What did you do to tame the front end down.

Thanks in advance.

The rears on these are so much stiffer than the front you may want to run a regular shock in rear and a HD shock in the front to balance out how the different ends respond to the road. New or stock front springs? if the front springs are original to the truck they may be warn and not as stiff as they should be. The Big Ten package is just heavier rears I believe, I think the front springs are the same ones used for non Big Tens with same engine size. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's how they were setup.

Few years ago, I replaced the front shocks on my 67 c30. I'd swear that they were the original, factory installed ones.
They zero resistance at all.
Wow, what a difference.

I just put Gas Magnums all around on my C1500 and much better reaction than with the ones on that were on there, was a bit squishy. Happy with purchase. But down the road I may consider new springs to stiffen her up a tad more.

I’m interested as well. My sorta new to me BIG10 (I typed it like that once and it autocorrects to that…or Siri knows squarebodys…not sure which lol) seems to have very stiff front springs.
By all accounts they should be original as the truck had <70k actual miles on it. And even though the old man hauled a big cab over truck camper most of its life, he (and his son) also did not turn wrenches or even know which wrench to use. Truck could have gotten aftermarket springs but I’d have thought they would sit taller if 40+ years ago some shop put big block springs in it. And it sits stock height.
But the front end tracks like a sports car. Even with god knows how old of shocks with loose bushings, there is no extra bounce over bumps and basically no roll over in corners. Even with the stock size wheels and tires when I bought it.
I recall 80s square half tons being pretty soft and cushy in front. No frame of reference for 70s half tons.
Seems odd that @hey mister truck is soft or bouncy with new shocks.
@Sad Sack are your front springs cushy? Maybe 80s models got a little softer spring rate?
Back to @hey mister. Seems odd, are you sure the shocks aren’t blown or one of them? It happens. Or do the springs have ALOT of miles? Just doesn’t seem normal to have 2-3 rebounds with new shocks. In any application.

I would highly recommend getting KYB Monomax. They made my 81 C20 handle WAY BETTER than it did with the Monroe's I installed previously. I did front and rear. It's like a sports car now, well, not really, but it is much improved over Monroe.

I went with the Bilstein 4600's for my 1987 R20 Suburban. the old shocks were "Delco performers"- original??? They had very little compression dampening, but the rebound was 99%. I could NOT get them to extend by hand. After installing the Bilsteins it does ride better, but they could use more rebound dampening- now a little bouncy after bumps. I have 79 Cutlass that I put much stiffer front springs in (600-ish lb vs 350-ish lb factory). KYB Gas Adjust's could not handle the rebound, so I went with Ridetech single adjustables- all OK now.

Im sure this isn't it but i have to ask lol. There not upside down right? That makes them soft. Once I worked on a truck and one side in the front was soft and dipped allot and I found an upside-down shock and that was the problem.
