Yup, sucks.Ah the infamous GM peeling clearcoat.....
Looking that way. You could try just repainting the defective panels, but color matching may be an issue and I wouldn't hold much faith for unaffected areas if they have the same clear coating. I have dealt with that same issue on a 3rd Gen Camaro when I worked at a body shop years ago and it was a nightmare, the corrupt clear couldn't be feathered to respray, it just kept releasing chunks when trying to sand the clear down. That's the car that made me say I'll never do another one unless it's a complete strip and respray. Good luck. Thanks SACK,
So a major repaint?
You could speed it up by blasting it with a 4000psi pressure washer, that'll send sheets of clear flying, guaranteed. My truck is doing the same thing, the clear is slowly flaking off. I'm just letting it do it's thing. I'll go back and polish the uncovered areas and flake it back to where the clear is more solid so it looks decent. Then it'll go a while and grow some more, I'll do it all over again. Hoping that eventually all the clear will just come off and I can cut and buff the basecoat underneath lol
NopeAh the infamous GM peeling clearcoat.....
Base coat doesn’t shine up. And it is or it should be effectively to thin to even try it without burning through. My truck is doing the same thing, the clear is slowly flaking off. Yes sir, the whole clear coat peeling is a bodymans nightmare. But on the other hand, it gets one to appreciate the value of a good orbital sander or liquid paint remover.Nope

While that was certainly an issue back in the day, 99.9% sure that is not original paint.Ah the infamous GM peeling clearcoat.....
I say base coat, it's single stage under there. They cleared the truck when they cut it down cuz the flipper I bought the truck from loves clearcoated patinaNope
