A past owner painted over the side emblems. I'm not sure if it's primer or primary coat, but it's a terrible flat grey.

I've tried goof-off with a magic erasor. That didn't remove anything! Any ideas what my next step should be? Paint thinner, acetone? I'd love to retain the original colors inside the letters and the red inside the GMC square.

Thanks

Citristrip will remove ALL the paint. Liberally brush it on, place in sealed plastic bag, wash in 24 hours. Repeat, if needed. You will have to repaint.

I'd try some paint thinner or acetone on a rag, wipe lightly and have some water close buy so you can rinse it when you're happy with it. Go slow and you might be able to save the OE paint
