Checked it out as best I could, mostly one owner who took it camping...I plan on drivin it through the winter but I fear the rust taking off, and not sure how must effort I should put into trying to stop it...

I would put lots of effort into stopping rust. The depreciation to the value alone would justify a winter beater car or truck. I bought my 2003 burb rather that a square for just that reason. Its expendable.....
