We'll move it to Exterior for now so it comes up in Searches.

Thanks for the update. Yep, I think many of us learned something. I had not clue the tank fillers were different. I knew of the mouting plastic shields etc and all that, and the 16 gals had to go in Shortbeds, and 87's got baffles or sump for the fuel pump. Past that, a tank was a tank. Not anymore.

Great thread here. Between the Reference Library, and this, now I know exactly what years of truck I can steal a filler hose off of for my 20 gallon tank swap!

you could try a flex radiator hose

I was STRONGLY cautioned against that by multiple mechanics and parts store clerks. Someting about the chemical composition in those hoses breaking down or something like that. But It is no longer an issue thanks to the NOS filler hose I managed to find.

I'd have only done it in a have to situation. the Rubber isn't just Rubber. A different formulation is used for fuels, oils, coolants etc. Chances are it would have been OK for a few years, but wouldn't have lasted 20 years like you'd expect.

My cobbled together hose is still holding up fine, it's been over a year now. It's not like it doesn't get used much either. Never thought it would hold up as well as it has.

The filler hose on the box of the box van to the tank, has been replaced twice in the 14 years I've owned. I used flex radiator hose.

Yeah I know it's not in it for the long haul, I just didn't think it would last the short haul either.

Viton rubber is best for fuel lines doesn't swell up or shrink ethanol resistant up to 30%

Bucket, I also found a NOS passenger side filler hose in my quest that might fit your truck. But I have to hand it to you for your ingenuity in creating a makeshift filler hose!

A man who was also looking for filler hoses found this particular thread on a web search and joined this website to ask me via PM where to get this passenger-side NOS fuel filler hose. He has not posted yet, but his screen name is John H. Strauch. I have spoken with him via telephone and he is a really nice guy! I hope he posts and introduces himself with truck pictures soon. He had been on a quest to find not one, but two hoses for his truck (dual tank). I was able to find him another NOS driver-side hose like mine to go with this passenger side one I mentioned here which he also bought. He said that they both fit perfectly too! So this passenger-side NOS filler hose that I happened to locate is no longer available for anyone reading this thread who is searching for filler hoses like John and I were. But I say, "Never give up!"

It may sound lazy, but I'm just waiting for the stepside filler hoses to finally be reproduced. If my cobbled one craps out in the mean time, I'll just a cobble another one, lol.

Does not sound lazy to me, but since it is not broken no need to fix it! I am too hung up on original parts anyway!
