Fan control/heat selector-aftermarket gripe

So my stock one was cast aluminum. Had tapped holes for the screws to hold it to the dash.

After pulling a dumb move and attaching my heater cables out side the dash to the new face plate and having to remove em to the mount said face plate behind the dash..I learned a new issue

The repop plastic hvac controllers…don’t have threaded holes in the mounts. Just free balling big holes.

Gonna hit the hardware store tomorrow and find some longer screws and clip on backings to make it work. I was have tempted to strip the new one and make it work in the old housing. Just F’n annoyed that some of these repops forget the most important function. Being able to be attached lol

My original in my 78 was the same as pictured most likely they made the most common version and said screw it for the odd ball versions used 1 year or in very limited circumstances. Not uncommon for repop stuff.

They make plenty of variations lol just the fact they forgot to have the holes threaded is what I’m talking Bout…

I don't know about 70's, but that looks the same as 80's trucks where the faceplate should be outside and screw into the dash.

As far as I know the holes in the face plate aren't threaded the screw passes thru and screws to the holes in the dash.

The 70s screws to the steel dash from the front then the plastic surround goes over it. Pull the cables thru the hole attach everything from the driver seat them screw the panel to the dash like you're installing a radio then the gauge surround goes over it.

Mine has a block off since it has no heat now.

My 74 the hvac head was behind the metal dash. Not on the surface

I knew I wasn’t loosing my mind lol @xm20k see how the unit sits behind the dash and is screwed in. Maybe it’s just my luck 73/74 is different

I've never seen one mounted behind like that,but based on the fit looks like its correct, must be a year thing.

Yah. It’s interesting all right. I was pissed and stoked at the same time. Got the cables all attached properly and the new push nuts installed. And went to mount it and was like mutha fu*^%# had to take it all apart and go at it again only to notice the faceplate wasn’t threaded. I walked away before I punched the dash hahaha so now I’m off to the hardware store to find some longer screws and zip clip backs to hold it in place. Last and worse case scenario I scavenge all the new goodies off this unit and retro fit it to my OG aluminum housing

Picked up 4 5/16 head #10 3/4in screws today. Worked great. Just go slow when installing knowing the housing is plastic I was afraid to snap it. Screws grabbed just enough material to hold.

Stock hardware won’t fit if you have an early Square like mine just an FYI
