Does anyone know if the later model ('77-on AFAIK) A/C evaporator core can be installed in the earlier factory A/C boxes? I've got a factory blower/evaporator housing from a '76 K25 that I want to use to convert my '78 K30 to A/C. However, the factory core that came in the '76 housing seems to be some sort of goofy hybrid between the early and late designs. The pipes coming out of it look like the earlier design like this:

However, the core itself is identical to the later version, complete with flat ends, 13 cross tubes, and the little mounting tabs like this:

I would rather use the later core because it is slightly larger, much more common, about 1/3rd the price, and looks the most like the original part. I just wanted to know if anybody has dealt with this before, and if there is any reason (such as plumbing threads, fittings, SAE/metric nonsense, or whatever) that I can't just use the later design. I will of course also be replacing the drier/accumulator and probably the hoses as well, so I can buy matching components as far as that goes.
