The link below from Penrite (never heard of em today....maybe I'm behind the times) says your oil needs to look dark if it's working "proply". Thoughts? I always assumed the cleaner it is after a few thousand miles, the better the engine is doing.

I agree with them, or at least that’s what I go by. I freak out if I check my oil and it looks “too clean” after say a thousand or 1500 miles because of concerns of blockage, pressure loss, etc. I want my filter to do its job well, but I want the oil to get everywhere it’s supposed to.
