Hello all,
I am back for some much needed help. The other day my truck started to have some hesitations after a tuneup and a local shop. I brought it back to them and it had a vacuum leak pretty easy to diagnose. While they were at it though they disconnected the E GR valve stating that it was bad. I know this is part of the emissions portion of the motor but I was wondering how common it is to do an EGR delete. Do I even need the EGR valve? Or will I get better performance getting a new EGR valve and replacing it? I want the option with the best performance. But I have heard that people get different carburetors and intake manifolds that have an EGR delete built in or just no place to put the EGR valve. Thank you all who respond your help is much appreciated I am kind of lost when it comes to emissions stuff on an old Chevy motor.

Thanks again!!!

I won't get into the ethics of disabling EGR valves - but there are so many required emission control devices nowadays that if your EGR doesn't work...well, let's just say - you won't cause sudden global warming.

See these EGR valves below:

They look great but they don't ever allow any exhaust gas to ever recirculate.

The lower gasket is homemade and cut so as to be blind in the area over the oval hole in the intake manifold:

This allows the pintle to pass through the other (round hole) and the valve to be mounted as if in use. But no exhaust gas is ever admitted back into the combustion air stream.
