I meant the exposed side, you can see in 1984's pics.

Oh, Sorry. Mine was painted black and the screw heads were black, so I repainted it, and the screw heads, black. I guess because of the black stripe on the body trim?

81-87 drip rails and mounting bolts are satin black.
That said, it's your truck! Make em any color you want! I think they look great painted body color on the white truck in this thread.

I made gaskets for my drip rails and didn't use any adhesive at all. My drip rails, the flat part that lays against the cab are black. So after I cleaned them up I painted them back black. And yeah, those screws were a bit difficult to remove and a couple of them seemed to be just under the drip rail where it curls over, and I had to angle the screw driver to get them back in. But it was just a couple of the screws. The screws were black as well. And then the part of the drip rail that curls up is brushed stainless, not chrome.

Like ya'll I need to remove mine and look to see if there is any rust under there. I don't see any evidence of rust coming out from under the rails anywhere but that's no guarantee there isn't at least some somewhere, especially around the screw holes. I'm not looking forward to fooling with the rails, coming up with a good way to reinstall them, but ya'll have given me some good ideas.

Hey, aren't the washers on those screws made on the screw?

Hey guys I searched this forum (and google) and can’t find any dimensions for how high the drip rail should be mounted above the door handle. I have all the parts, but my truck had new door skins on it when I got it so I need to reinstall these at some point. I plan to drill the screw holes and use the double sided tape like the factory.

I don’t have the trim across the back of the can either for reference so that’s why I asked from the door handle.

Thanks

Don't sweat that measurement, these trucks vary WILDY. I just measured a few of the ones we have here at work, that measurement ranges from 24 3/8" all the way to 24 7/8". Just pick a spot above the door where the contours match/it looks good and attach it

Also roughly holding up the cab trim corners in the same spot on 2 different trucks. I posted all this just to give you plenty of visuals, the actual measurement doesn't really matter as long as the drip rails look right and are lined up to follow the door with an even gap

That’s perfect. Thank you so much for the measurements and photos. Takes my anxiety down a notch since I’ll be drilling into new door skins.

@Crick13 You don't drill the door.....the drip rails go on the top, above the doors

Yeah i feel like an idiot now. It’s been a long week. At least I feel a little bit better knowing I can put them 5.5” above the door handle and still have room for the back cab molding on down the road.

Thanks!

After removing the two sided tape on drip rail mating surface, the bare metal looks like it could be prone to rusting? Does that surface get repainted? Or does the new two sided tape seal the surface so it won’t rust? Seems like painting it could cause the surface to not sit flat on the cab?

Mine was painted and new tape applied. The tape is very thin and should not cause issues.
Not painting is asking for rust.
