On my ‘85 C10 with the original door panels, I used SEM color coat. I think spraying a base coat of plastic adhesion promoter helped a lot. I didn’t sand, because I wanted to preserve the original texture. SEM does make a texture replacement product in an aerosol can, but I’ve never tried it. The armrests in this pic are actually still in their original finish, I just cleaned them up and put them back on.
