so I’m in the middle of replacing my vent windows. I started with the passenger side and at first it looked like the tab behind the vent window was broken. Took the driver side off and the tab was lose also. Is that the way it’s supposed to be? Has anyone tried to weld them for stiffness or should I just leave it alone?

If the driver's side tabs are in fact loose, they are not supposed to be. They were supposed to be spot welded together.

Passenger side needs repaired.
Thank you. I was a little thrown off by the driver side brace. It didn’t look like it was ever welded so wasn’t sure if that was how it came from the factory. I’ll look into getting both side welded

The tabs in the doors of my K5 and C20 are not welded. There is a screw that goes from the big opening on the inside to the speed fastener on the outside.
You can see the speed fasteners in the pictures.

I may be incorrect then. I'm pretty sure I've got doors with a spot weld there, but I won't swear to it.

I think there is supposed to be some slip.

You put the wing window in and then tighten that crosscar screw so that it puts the window seal in compression.

Any chance you have a picture of it and maybe screw size?

the one side is broken but it may not actually affect anything. You will need to put the screw back in place though. A lot of people don’t/didn’t over the years and that’s why you see a crack on the outer door in that area from mirror flex.

Sorry couldn't find any pictures. The screw has a coarse thread, is thin and has a big washer.
I think have one in my shop but would have to search for it but I can't promise that I find it.

Thank you. I checked my LMC catalog and didn’t see it. I’ll give them a call and see if I can find it that way

Found a pic. It's not super sharp and not a good angle but you can see type of screw.

yes - that's why you need the tab repaired. It helps re-inforce the door skin everytime the door is opened and closed.
You dont want a tear appearing in the door sheet - that is way more challenging to repair ....

I wouldn’t say more challenging, it’s actually easier to fix the crack than the broken tab. One requires paint though.
