1983 pace arrow 454 gen 4, putting in my squarebody. So curious if it's got a rv cam, guessing so since it's out of a rv.

I'll watch this thread as I'm sure an engine builder will come along and tell us for sure, but I "think" the answer is no. I "think" that an 454 RV engine is going to be the same as any other heavy duty 454 (example 1 ton truck) in the same year. I believe the term RV cam denotes a cam other than stock that is like one step up or very mild, it would make a little more power than stock, might give you a little better MPG and will have good idle quality. However the specifics are going to vary some from camshaft manufactures.

I hope it has higher compression than '79.

Nope.

As mentioned earlier, it is like a step above the factory cam in most cases.
My 454 has a "RV" cam in it.
With the carb, intake, and headers upgrade mods done to the engine you can just barely hear the cam in there.

I can't speak for all but I've always understood that there are 3 stages of rv cams. I believe they were given kinda randomly depending weight and size and on what rv manufacturer was able to get there hands on. Sometimes the label on the valve cover will tell you. I had a 77 440 in an rv that said it was a class 2, 440 I was assuming it meant it had a stage 2 rv cam?

If it came in an RV then it must be an RV cam. Just like the tires on an RV are RV tires and the seats are RV seats. Haha... But really, it is probably the same as the truck 454 on the same years. RV cams are probably a non factory upgrade, to give a little more power.
