I don’t know about you guys, but if I remember correctly, it’ll make some kind of ratcheting noise when it’s able to move like that in park.

I'm just saying, I doubt the t-case is the problem. So far, the symptoms are that of a dead 700r4.

Yep Bucket is right. I thought about it a bit more and the truck was not under any kind of load at the point of failure. Which is normally when the chains break/throw.

I ended up trailing it to a shop who confirmed my suspicion of a bad pump which most likely torched my clutches and who knows what else. So its in store for a full in house rebuild from a 700r4 specialist which will include all the updates/upgrades/bulletproofing things they can throw at it, as well as a 3 year warranty. Only reason I was thinking T-case is that I have been told that it felt as though it had some play in the chain, I also know that its has some leaks and will most likely need rebuilt eventually. But that will have to wait until I recover some from this rebuild bill.

Thanks everyone for the help! I'll be sure to post up a parts list and what ever other information I get whenever its done.

I have heard the chain for the 203 isn't available any more. Any body know? My 75 K20 still has the 203 that has a part time kit in it. Serviced regularly, not a bunch of looseness in it, hope it lasts!!

I think with normal use, a 203 will last forever. I've had 3 and they have all been in tip top shape, the exception being the shifters. My '79 is the only one that has always shifted easily.

I'm curious about the chain availability now though.

Alrighty, figured I would give a quick update on this.

Finally got the truck back yesterday. it now moves under its own power and the transmission seemed to be working great, the shop also replaced my Engine Oil pan gasket as they noticed a slight leak (I knew this before hand and didn't ask them to mess with it as it was not too bad). Took it for a longer drive today. Trans performed great! but I was able to hear two different times sounds of bolts falling out, as well as a loud whistling sound from the engine bay. Also my 4WD light comes on randomly now.

Got home started checking things out, found my billet PCV housing sitting on my motor and the valve cover blowing oil everywhere (whistling sound), Put that back where it goes. Under the truck I found my engine oil leak has gotten worse (could be from the valve not being where it should). I lost a bolt out of my inspection cover, I found a leak between the transfer case and the transmission, And lastly I found my transfer case fill plug loose and hanging on by two threads.

Went through took pictures and then tightened everything up that I found to be loose. The shop wants me to drive it for 10 days and then bring it back for a recheck. I'm planning on taking it back to them on Monday mainly due to the now missing bolt/s and severe leaks.

I was really happy with their work until I found all of this, and I know somethings happen which is fine but for the price paid, and the amount of time they've had it my truck should not come back in worst shape then when I dropped it off.

Will update as this progresses.

So the last pesky oil leak you've been chasing was traced to the PAN. That's curious and I wonder what's up with that. Certainly not unheard of, but certainly uncommon.

This is my thinking as well. I replaced the pan gasket, pan and everything except for the head gaskets, and timing cover and timing cover gasket. I even used a nice, properly sized, 1 piece FelPro pan gasket.. Maybe I'm just not as good at wrenching as I think I am :emotions122:

The leak I am seeing now after the work is the same as before the work just heavier. The Engine oil pan is completely clean but the trans inspection cover, starter, oil filter and back is covered with fresh clean engine oil. They also specifically said the rear main looked fine. I suppose it is also possible that the leak was due to the PCV housing being out of the valve cover but the cover and everything high was clean of oil, so I question that. I also have to top it off a quart about once every other week so its not the end of the world just annoying.

Now there is also a leak of trans or t-case fluid as I can smell it but it only looks to be from the seal between the two so I'm thinking the shop will address that.

My thought went right to the oil filter adapter after reading that last post.
Is there a pressure switch down there for the choke light thingy?
Maybe look at that deal. What if it's leaking out with engine on?

I have heard of oil pan rail distortion causing a leak, maybe you DID mess it up and/ or maybe it was misdiagnosed by the shop because you have a faulty sender / pressure light switch thingy .

I'm really not sure if there is a switch down there. I'll have to check that out. I know I'm not using it if there is as it has a 1406 edelbrock carb with the electric choke on it. It is also VERY possible that I got a bent pan as it was just a summit brand. I guess I have some things to check out after the shop checks things out.

I would really hate to dig into things and have them tell me that they wont warranty their work, because I messed things up.

Got the truck back again last night. They replaced the rear output seal on the transmission and re-mated the transfer case. So far been driving it without any smells of leaking trans fluid. Tonight after work I'll poke around under it and check visibly for any fluid leaking besides engine oil. As for this devious engine oil leak, they put in some of that UV additive and when I bring it back to them for their 10 day checkup they be able to pin point the cause and I can go from there with it.

All in all the truck is running great. But it is becoming apparent that I'll be wanting more power out of the motor as soon as I button up a few other things with it.
