Install 78 tilt column in my 83 K10

I just restored and installed what I believe to be a tilt column out of a 78 Chevy truck. I cleaned up the rust, repainted and put it back together. It installed perfectly in my 83 K10. Steering wheel locks fine but the column shifter does not. Shifts perfectly through Park, Reverse, Neutral and all four (700R4) gears. I've removed the shift linkage and pulled the shift tube lever up as high as it will go and the shifter still does not lock. Does anyone have any thoughts on the problem? Thanks in advance!

That column wasn't designed to be used for a700r4. Before my manual conversion i put an R4 in my 78 that was a 3 speed and I was able to get: Park,R,N,4th,3rd,and 2nd just fine by adjusting it . If I absolutely needed first gear I would quickly slam it down to first and it would go in most of the time. I do believe there are ways to get it to work better in all gears without going to the 84 and up column but it would take some modifications. I cant remember where but I know all this has already been discussed on here.

I was wondering if that could be an issue. Thanks for bringing up the topic. I'll check some of the older threads but maybe someone else can enlighten me on how I can make this work since I restored such a nice column!
