Maybe @shiftpro is correct in a way. What we have to consider is that he is probably referring to the Canadian special edition D60. I believe they are a spineless version that bend under the slightest pressure so that the rest of the drivetrain isn't inconvenienced or offended by a stronger component being present.

It's also possible all the cold temperatures and fresh air have some effect on the metallurgy in that part of the world? Not sure but I'm voting for the first one and putting it in the win column for Shiftpro.

Lol, who would have guessed a D60 purchase thread would result Canadian jokes. The "your mama" jokes must be coming at some point later.

For GM front axles....

All 1/2 and 3/4 ton open knuckle front axles have 19 spline outer stubs. ALL of them.

All D60’s have 30 spline outlets. ALL of them.

Excellent deal even if you don't have a dually to put it under. If you plan to convert it to SRW spindles expect it to cost you about another $500. But really that was a great buy. I paid $700 for mine, crusty rusty, had to change spindles, new brake calipers and pads, new kingpin bushing kit, new re-gear...I have way too much in mine.

Dumb question here- why did they put on such strange spindles on them if it was a dually? I know duallys have those weird front wheels with a ton of backspacing to them. But why not "normal" spindles and then regular wheels?

So the wheels are all the same. That way you only need to carry one spare tire.

It also has to do with where the tire centerline is in relation to the steering axis. Not only would using the single wheel hubs make the tires sit too far into the wheel well and cause clearance problems in turns it would scrub the treads off the tires.
